Double, Double Toil and Trouble - October Holiday Day Camp

Last Saturday was so much fun!  Campers spent the morning creating spooky witch art and experiencing creepy music.

We started camp in art.  Mrs. Martinez read us a spooky book to set the mood.

After story time Mrs. Martinez shows us how to start our witches.

Students think about what kind of fantastic shoes to give their witch.

Next we worked on the witches stockings.  We used really cool color change markers to create fun patterns on her tights.

For the skirt we cut paper and then drew or glued glitter to create pattern.

No witch would be complete without a spooky setting.  We drew spooky scenes to complete our pieces.

After our snack time we got right to making music.

We started with a fun song called Double, Double Toil and Trouble.  Students sang a spooky melody about a witch's brew.  We created movement around the "fire" and added instruments and props to round things out.

Next we listened to O Fortuna from Carmina Burana.

We moved with scarves to the repetitive pattern in this piece of music.

Then we created a flashlight routine to go along with the piece and turned out the lights!

Our last project was a dramatic play activity.  I gave the group a poem and a list of must haves.

Here they are figuring out how to incorporate at least 1 instrument, 1 movement and 1 prop.

There were a few different versions before we settled on a final performance.

Check out our final performance!
